History of Groot Constantia
Groot Constantia, established in 1685, was the first wine farm in South Africa. It was founded by Simon van der Stel in an effort to teach farmers how to cultivate wine properly. By 1709 there were 70,000 vines on the farm, and Constantia wines had become well-known in Europe. In fact, even Napoleon was a fan!

Daily tasting tours, on the hour, from 10h00 - 16h00, 7 Days a week (except Good Friday & Christmas Day) 24th & 31st December: Groot Constantia will close at 16:00 This ticket is valid for single entry for 14 days after the chosen date

Buy Wine: Groot Constantia wines can be purchased in both the Cloete Cellar and modern Production Cellar. Two Restaurants: The estate also boasts two top-notch restaurants, Jonkershuis and Simon’s, where you can eat after you have finished exploring the Visitors Route. Booking before-hand is highly recommended at these popular restaurants.
